Cross-Country Skiing Lessons for Adult Beginners

I, Mary Ann Bennett, have been a member and volunteer with the Devon Nordic Ski Club for many years. In the winter of 2014, I earned the Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors (CANSI) Level 1 certification. I offer lessons that cover basic information and skills about cross-country skiing, including equipment and clothing, getting up from a fall, weight transfer, kick and glide, going up and down hills, and trail etiquette. I offer lessons in Devon’s river valley which are customized to meet the needs of learners.

I provide lessons at no charge but ask participants to support the Devon Nordic Ski Club with a donation which can be placed in the green metal box at the trailhead, or by purchasing a membership. The funds are used to cover costs such as operating and maintaining trail-grooming equipment.

Like many people, the first time I went cross-country skiing was in high school gym class. At the time, I hadn’t yet discovered the joys of the sport. Over the years, my love of cross-country skiing has grown and I often find myself smiling at the blessings of a sunny day and sparkling snow to play on. It is very satisfying for me to help others to experience the pleasures of being outdoors in the winter and what fantastic exercise cross-country skiing is.
